Singing Lessons
I have a great love of rock, pop and music theatre, and spent many enjoyable years playing and singing in a rock covers band. I have written and performed vocal music for various stage and concert productions.
Currently I am actively involved with Suffolk Constabulary Male Voice Choir as well as Felixstowe based Felixstowe Harmonies, an all female choir.
I have Grade 8 Distinction in Singing with both ABRSM and Rockschool alongside my teaching diploma.
Drawing on this experience I offer vocal coaching to anyone who would like help improving their singing. My home studio includes a pa system for those wishing to develop microphone techniques and recording facilities if you would like to share your songs with friends and family.
Core singing skills are the same whether you want to sing folk, pop, rock or art songs as a soloist or in a choir. I offer "one-off" sessions to help identify areas for improvement and build confidence, short courses or regular singing lessons for longer term development.
Typical singing lessons will include:
- Developing vocal warm-up techniques
- The importance of posture
- How to control the breath
- Increasing vocal range
- How to avoid strain and injury
- Learning the songs you love
You may also like to try:
- Vocal improvisation
- Singing in harmony
- Learning to read music
- Recording vocals over backing tracks
Do you want to take an exam?
Singing students may take Rockschool, Trinity Guildhall or ABRSM exams if they wish. It's a great way to get professional recognition of your ability and the repertoire is enormous! And by the way, you don't have to read music to take a performance exam!
Want to try recording your vocals?
While I don't profess to be a professional recording technician, I have recording equipment and sufficient skills to enable the amateur to get a fair recording of a song. Here are a few examples of my own.
